The School |

Chaddesden Park Junior School was built in 1957. Built as a two-form entry school, it contains eight classrooms, one studio, a library, a purpose built ICT suite, a hall, a dining room and a new community room. The classrooms are arranged in pairs so that each area caters for a single age group of children. The Assembly Hall is equipped as a gymnasium and has a stage for concert use. School Meals are prepared in the kitchen, which adjoins the Dining Hall. We have extensive grounds allowing play to take place on both hard and grassed areas. There is a proposal from the Local Authority to merge the Infant and Junior Schools and build a brand new Primary School on the current school site. This is conditional on funding being available from 2012.
The school remains part of Derby City but the responsibility for its efficient operation rests with the Governing Body under the City's policy of delegated powers. The school operates a policy of equal opportunities for all children regardless of gender, ability, race or cultural background.
For the coming year 2009/2010 the school will cater for seven classes, with three mixed Year 3/4 classes and two Year 5 and two Year 6 single age classes. The National Curriculum "core subjects" of English, Mathematics, Science and ICT are supported by the "foundation subjects" of Technology, History, Geography, Drama, Music, Art, R.E., P.S.H.E and P.E. In addition, weekly Citizenship lessons take place in every class. In partnership with Lees Brook Community Sports College, all children are taught a Modern Foreign Language – currently French.
The children will encounter a variety of experiences and teaching methods appropriate to the subject and circumstances and to the ability and learning style of the children, ensuring that the National Curriculum is delivered in the most stimulating and effective manner. Although the school has no affiliation to any particular church, the children receive Religious Education based on Christian beliefs as set out in the Derbyshire agreed syllabus. Reference is also made to other religions of the world in an attempt to cultivate a positive attitude towards people of other cultures and faiths. Parents have the right to withdraw their children from RE and collective worship on religious grounds, in such cases alternative provision will be made in school.
The Planned Admission Limit for pupils in the normal transfer age group to be admitted in September 2009 is 60.

Cycling to School
Children in Year 6 are allowed to cycle to school provided they have completed the Cycle Derby “Bikeability” course offered in school during the autumn term. There is a lockable cycle shelter available on site. Children who cycle to school must wear a helmet and are required to fill in a cycling “Code of Conduct” signed by themselves and a parent.
